Calicut was located on South-Western tip of modern-day India. It was situated on the coast of the Indian Ocean and therefore influenced by the monsoon winds.
Because of the wind and geography, traders arrived from Africa and the Middle East and departed from Calicut for Southeast Asia in the summer. Traders arrived from Southeast and left for Africa and the Middle East in the winter. This made Calicut and excellent midway trading place. You could expect goods from all around the Indian Ocean in this port city.
